Veronica is a 15-year-old girl living in Vallecas, Madrid, with her mother and three younger siblings. After their father’s recent death, their mother works long hours to support the family, leaving Veronica in charge. On the day of a solar eclipse, Veronica’s teacher tells the class about how ancient cultures used eclipses for dark rituals and sacrifices.

Curiosity gets the better of Veronica and her friends, Rosa and Diana, as they decide to conduct a séance using a Ouija board. Veronica’s intention is to communicate with her late father, while Diana seeks to contact her deceased boyfriend. As they place their hands on the Ouija board’s planchette, an eerie and unsettling event occurs: the glass cup on the board becomes unbearably hot. While Rosa and Diana pull their hands away, Veronica’s hand remains on the cup, and at the moment of the eclipse, it shatters, cutting her finger and dripping blood onto the board.

This event marks the beginning of Veronica’s descent into terror. She becomes unresponsive during the séance, whispering something repeatedly before letting out a demonic scream. Concerned for her well-being, Veronica’s teacher suggests that she may have passed out due to iron deficiency.

Soon after the séance, Veronica experiences a series of paranormal occurrences, and her friends begin to distance themselves from her. Desperate for answers, she seeks out an elderly blind nun known as “Sister Death,” who explains that the séance has attached a dark spirit to her. Sister Death attempts to compel the spirit to leave, but her efforts prove futile.

As the supernatural events escalate, Veronica tries to protect her siblings by drawing Viking symbols she believes will ward off the malevolent entity. However, the demon destroys these symbols, and Veronica’s youngest sister, Lucia, claims that it was Veronica who was choking her, not the spirit. As Veronica investigates further, she discovers burn marks on the undersides of her mattresses and large burn marks in the shape of human bodies on each of her siblings’ mattresses.

Sister Death reveals her own history of seeing dark spirits and intentionally blinding herself in an attempt to escape the visions. She advises Veronica that the only way to force the spirit to leave is to correct the mistakes made during the séance and bid the entity farewell.

Desperation leads Veronica to attempt another séance, this time with her siblings. However, things take a terrifying turn as her brother, Antoñito, mistakenly draws symbols of invocation instead of protection. When Veronica tries to compel the spirit to say goodbye, it refuses, setting off a chain of events that lead to a horrifying climax.

In a shocking revelation, Veronica realizes that she has been possessed by the demon all along and has unknowingly harmed her siblings under its control. She tries to end the possession by slitting her own throat, but the demon prevents her from doing so. The police arrive, finding Veronica under attack by an invisible force. The medics carry her and her brother out, leaving a shaken detective to witness a photograph of Veronica suddenly catching fire. Tragically, he is informed that Veronica has died.

The film concludes with a chilling epilogue set five years later in 1996, where unexplained paranormal activity is reported in Madrid. It’s revealed that the movie is based on the first police report in Spain where an officer certified witnessed paranormal activity.
